Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Colours are a range of moderately priced colours which have been carefully selected to offer a wide colour spectrum within a uniform price. A range which is suitable for both amateur artists or the accomplished artist who requires large volumes of colour at an economical price. The range of 40 colours are chosen according to mass tone (colour from tube), undertone (bias of colour when in a thin film), colour strength, relative opacity and the character of the pigment itself. The resultant colour spectrum ensures the largest number of colours can be mixed.
Griffin Alkyd Fast Drying Oil Colour from Winsor & Newton is an alkyd paint. Alkyd is an oil color made from pigment and oil modified alkyd resin that can be thinned using conventional oil color solvents. This unique formulation allows for quicker drying time than oil but slower than acrylic. The oil modified alkyd resin binder includes a solvent that is necessary to control the drying rate and consistency of the color. The binder also produces a more fluid consistency than traditional oil paint.
Fast dry time, greater translucency and luminosity from the tube and a more fluid consistency are some of the advantages of using alkyd instead of oil. Other advantages include a consistency similar to oil, a longer dry time and the look of oil when dry. Griffin Fast Dry Oil will remain workable on the palette for 4-8 hours yet is dry to the touch in 18-24 hours. Dry time varies with thickness of paint and temperature. Alkyd paints are well suited for most painting techniques like glazing and impasto. The rapid dry time makes it a good choice for decorative painting. Its harder paint film makes it ideal for use on artwork and signs exposed to outside elements.
